With the cross-over project 'Haarlem by Night', Joshua
Baumgarten and Marike Koe, captured the coronaperiod
in words and images. By creating a time frame through
which we come to see Haarlem in a new light. The project
is given shape as a book, a website and as an exhibition.
Marike photographes people and places. Her pictures
are made out of her own intuition, without the use of a
flashlight or a tripod. Marike has a style that registers
her environment in a documentary fashion. For the
'Haarlem by Night' project she walked through Haarlems
neighborhoods at night, creating images that captured
the light and darkness, both literally and figuratively.
Joshua is the Haarlem Underground Godfather.
For twenty years already he organizes alternative
music events, poetry nights and festivals. He is also
the frontman of the Irrational Library band, in which
his social-political spoken word has a leading role.
For 'Haarlem by Night' he motivated himself to write
daily. In search of stilness, routine and meaning, he
wrote short and longer poems, columns that reflected
his moods and impressions of this time period.
